hurricane season has two months left on paper but the first real front is coming sooner or later and every year i get caught flat footed. Baffin and the upper Laguna. water drops a foot and a half overnight, the flats i was wading on thursday are mud on saturday, and i spend two days burning gas looking.
where do yall go the first two days after a norther. deep rocks, the drop along the spoils, the ICW? asking for the whole coast and not only Baffin, since half this board fishes north of me and it all works about the same.

mansfield answer. the day of the front i do not go, 25 knots out of the north on the Laguna is a good way to go swimming. day two the water is low and clear and the trout are in the deepest thing they can find, for us that is the edge of the ICW and the ditch at the Saucer. day three it warms back up and they slide back up onto the edges of the flats. Gulp on a quarter ounce jighead crawled slow, or a paddletail slow. slow is the whole answer.

Aransas. the first norther pushes everything out of the back lakes and off the shorelines and into the guts and channels. Lydia Ann, the ship channel edges, the deep side of Traylor, the Estes drop. the reds i talked about in the other thread school up hard right then. trout go to the deeper grass on the leeward shorelines, and the day after a front with a low tide is when the mud pockets on the Goose Island side light up in the afternoon once the sun has been on them.

POC. i run clients through this every fall. front day, if it is under 20 knots, i fish the leeward side of the islands in Espiritu Santo and the back side of Matagorda Island, the water is still up and the fish have not moved yet. day two, low water, the guts in the back lakes and the deep shorelines in Shoalwater Bay, the jetties if the wind lays down. days three and four are the best fishing of the fall, water coming back in over cold flats, big trout on the sand and grass edges in Pringle. i tell people not to book the front day and to book the third day.

well, monday's was the first real one, 25 degree drop and the water down about a foot in Baffin by tuesday. fished wednesday. rocks off the Badlands in 4 to 5 feet, slow sinking plug, three trout to 22 inches in an hour and then nothing once the sun got up. the flats were bare. mansfield had it right, deep and slow. water was coming back up today.

second front came through last night and it was a stronger one. San Antonio Bay is blown out and 2 feet low tonight, the delta is mud. going to try the ICW spoils by Seadrift in the morning like yall said and report back if it works. if it does not i will pretend i never posted.

for whoever finds this next fall. three fronts in and the pattern has held every time down here. front day stay home. day two, ICW edge with a jighead crawled on the bottom. day three the trout come back up on the flats by the East Cut. the marine forecast on weather.gov for the lower Laguna has called every one of them within a couple of hours this year, that is what i plan by now. also the flounder are stacking in the cuts on the way out, and the closed season runs nov 1 to mid december, so back they go.
